My lovely daughter Noa Rose is now 3 1/2 months old, so I thought I would share with you some of my experiences with the Kari Me. I was a great fan of this product even prior to her birth, based on our customer reviews and comments - HOWEVER, I really didn't appreciate the extent as to how amazing and versatile this product is proving to be, so here you can read a summary of what I think.
1. From Birth - During the first couple of weeks, all I did was wear Noa in the Kari Me around the house and out and about. She slept very securely, and I was totally relaxed as could feel her breathing, moving and just being! A wonderful experience during those early post-partum days. Also considering I have a three and a half year old daughter, it allowed me to continue being close to her, and easing the disruption. Some times I undressed her to the nappy, and carried her "skin to skin" which was also a wonderful experience.
2. Breastfeeding in public. In those early days - until Noa and I had completely established how we work together, it was a real godsend to have the Kari Me as a cover - the shoulder pieces offer a beautiful cover if you chose to take the baby out and not feed in the Breastfeeding position. (I also found that it was an excellent cover for leak spots too!)
3. Travelling/Flying. When Noa was 6 weeks we travelled to visit my family in Norway, and I have to say the Kari Me was absolutely brilliant. I put it on at home at 4 am before leaving to the airport, and took it off once we arrived at our final destination. Noa was put in and out throughout the day and it was especially amazing in flight as well as walking through the airport. On our return flights I was actually allowed to keep her in the Kari Me for landing,......she slept through and wasn't disturbed at all. Obviously this is at the airlines discretion, but it worked for me.
4. School Run......when I need to take Noa in and out of the car quickly, I put it on at home before we leave, and it's really easy once we get to wherever we are going. It's especially good for needing to have both hands free (to hold a child, bags, prams etc!)
5. Going out in the evening.......we have had a couple of nights out using the Kari Me.....Concerts at Kenwood and restaurants - an easy way to take her with.
6. Breastfeeding Position - is also really comfortable, I would though advise that you have a think which breast you will need to use, as you will need to ensure that it is tied accordingly.
7. Colic and crying. We often found that on the occasion that Noa was crying (evenings etc), the only way to calm her was to put her in the Kari Me - holding her was not good enough. As soon as she was put in the Kari Me, she quietened down.
8. Increasing Milk Supply - it is very noticeable that on the days/hours I carry Noa in the Kari Me, I feel as if I have more milk for the next feeds. This is something that Lactation Consultants recommend as one of the natural and pleasurable methods of attempting to increase milk supply.
I have actually got myself two - as couldn't be without it whilst it's in the wash!!!
